Hey y'all! Valentine's Day is just around the corner. For some of you that may be read as a gooey, happy sentence. Some it may produce feelings of dread. Or maybe it's no more exciting or depressing for you than any other day of the year. Whichever category you find yourself in here's some of my all time favorite love songs. In no particular order of course!

The Notebook - I'll Be Seeing You

There's just something about this song that is so sweet and beautiful, and then you add in the scenes with Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams, and later the scenes with James Garner and Gena Rowlands. It's the ultimate love song.

Click - Linger

I wouldn't call Click the classic love story, but there's an adorable scene with Adam Sandler and Kate Beckinsale where he's looking back on when they were just dating. Linger is playing softly in the background. The scene is great if for no other reason than getting to hear Adam Sandler try to sing along to Linger.

Love Story - Love Story

Not only did Love Story, which was a book originally, give us one of the best lines to quote randomly. "Love means never having to say you're sorry". It also gave us a song of the same name that is just as memorable.

Parenthood - Make You Feel My Love

This song has been making the rounds again in the last few years. If you do a quick Google search you'll find tons of well known artists that cover this Bob Dylan song. This is probably my favorite. The choir makes it so full and intense, and I love that they used this for Crosby and Jasmine's wedding, sorry for the spoiler! I love the Lea Michele version that she sings in honor of Cory Montheith as well.

Oklahoma - People Will Say We're In Love

If you've seen Oklahoma you know it has some strange songs, this isn't one of them. It's beautiful as an instrumental arrangement, but the lyrics are wonderful as well. I mean it's Rodgers and Hammerstein.

The Way We Were - The Way We Were

Obviously songs that had the same title as their movie was a huge thing in the 1970s. Although The Way We Were kicks it up a notch and has it performed by the film's star, Barbra Streisand. Once you hear the song you'll be dying to see the movie. It's science. Or love. Or Barbra.

Friends - With Or Without You

I feel like they should just retitle the name of this song "The Ross and Rachel Theme". Who doesn't remember Ross desperately calling the radio station to request this song for Rachel to fix everything between them? Who else wonders why he thought she would totally hear that song? Did I miss that part of the 90s where we waited with our boom boxes for someone to fix everything with a U2 song? Still one of my favorites.

You've probably seen the pictures that say something along the lines of "leggings are not pants " or maybe you've just thought it yourself. Well I'm here to tell you something that might be shocking; legging wearers don't care.
I'll admit at one point I was on the fence about leggings as pants. After all leggings aren't "technically" pants. At the same time though, that's the beauty of leggings, they're not pants but they can take the place of pants.
My love affair with leggings was a slow burn you could say. It started with wearing them under skirts and dresses in the middle school years. I treated them as merely a thicker form of tights. Who remembers that trend? Cropped leggings anyone?
Then it transitioned to tunics and long shirts. Somewhere along the way I was a full blown leggings and a sweater girl.
Perhaps I started getting braver about my unabashed love of leggings in my pregnancy. After all leggings are an expectant mother's best friend. Yes I did wear the good ol' maternity jeans, but most of the time I was in black leggings. And after I had my son leggings were the perfect wardrobe staple to make me feel put together, and not like I was still transitioning between my pregnant body and my before baby body
Now I don't bat an eye about going out in leggings and a regular hem shirt. Why would I? I've never shied away from wearing a bathing suit at the beach or pool, and even the most conservative bathing suits show more than a pair of black leggings do. I have nothing to hide, and neither do you. Embrace the legging.
For one thing, black leggings go with everything. They're the perfect canvas to work around. I don't worry in the morning about whether my pants go with my outfit, because they always do. Bonus: I never have to worry about ironing them. Leggings are basically a girl's best friend, sorry diamonds.
Let's face it. Leggings are just more comfortable than most pants. I don't need to tell y'all that when you feel comfortable you are more confident. And of course when you're feeling your most confident good things shall happen. Or at least you're more likely to be open to them.
So the next time you're wondering whether someone will judge you for stepping out in your leggings, just don't wonder. Instead enjoy the complete free range of motion you'll have in your leggings. Embrace the legging.

P.S. Full disclosure, as I'm writing this I'm wearing jeans. All my leggings are in the wash. I feel like a traitor.

Happy Friday y'all! I hope everyone's week has gone well, if not cheer up, Friday is here! For this week's Five on Friday I thought I'd share five ways you can improve your skin. So if you're worried about your skin being dull, constantly blemish ridden, or just anything besides radiant, read on!

1. Moisturize

For years I thought I shouldn't moisturize my skin because it could aggravate acne. Your skin still needs moisture. I use the Anew Vitale Day Cream, which is specifically for women in their 20s to 30s. It's so important to not just moisturize but to use a moisturizer suited for your skin type. Moisturizing is your best bet against the first signs of aging, such as fine lines. It's always best to start before you see any aging, so if you don't have a daily moisturizer today is the day to find the right one for you.

2. Exfoliate
In order for your skin to look good not only without makeup but also with, you need to be exfoliating. It is ideal to exfoliate once per week in the Winter, and every few days in the warm weather months. Your makeup won't blend right if you're stuck with dead skin cells on your face. I use the Anew Clean Refining Daily Scrub. If you want a more thorough scrub try out the Anew Clean Cleansing Brush. You can use your regular daily facial cleanser with it, and it's suitable for all skin types. It cleans 5 times better than your hands alone. Bonus tip: try exfoliating when you go to wash your makeup off. Not only will you be exfoliating away the dead skin, but you'll make sure not a trace is left of your makeup.

3. Ice, Ice, Baby
This one isn't really a long term fix for your skin. It's more of a "I have someone coming over in 10 minutes and I still need to pick up the living room" quick fix for your skin. Which we could all use every once in a while. Take an ice cube and just suck on it for a few minutes, until it melts basically. The ice chills the millions of cells in your cheeks and lips, which will cause increased circulation, and leaves you with the result of plumper, rosier skin.

4. Clean Your Phone
You don't have to watch Inside Edition to know that your phone is a breeding ground for every germ imaginable. Germs are flawless skin's biggest foe. So if you really want to improve your skin start cleaning your phone as often as possible. Your skin will thank you.

5. Clean Your Makeup Brushes
Makeup brushes trap in all those germs found on your face and in your makeup like that Swiffer duster you used to clean the ceiling fan. Think about that. Now go grab your makeup brushes, some baby shampoo, warm water, and get to cleaning. Once you've cleaned them, pat the bristles dry (reshaping them if necessary) and let them dry on a fresh hand towel. Voila.

Well there you have it folks, five ways to improve your skin, and none of them are super expensive or involve heavy amounts of Botox and other unknown injectables. What are your favorite skincare tips?

It's official, you're going to be a mother. Whether you're pregnant, adopting, using a surrogate, you're about to enter new and unexplored terroriy. Naturally you wanna be prepared for what lies ahead so you pick up a few baby books. You decide to ask a friend/sister/mom group what books they read when they were waiting for their baby. Some provide a few books they enjoyed, and then there's that one. You know the one. She proudly says "oh I never read any of those books, you'd be better off to just take it as it comes".
Now I will admit the moms that turn their noses up at reading pregnancy or parenting books often have some valid points, but I am astounded by the number of blogs where moms actually WARN other moms about reading baby books.
I'm here to tell you, read the baby books. I'm not saying you have to, but there is no harm in being more informed. Knowledge is power, my friends.
Have you ever noticed that the same moms who warn about baby books also dole out their own parenting advice freely (and maybe unasked for)? Coinidence? I think not. Newsflash: no one is the perfect parent. No one is born knowing how to be a mother.
I had a lot of experience with children before I was a mother. I had taught Sunday School, I taught children dance, I have 7 nieces and nephews that I used to babysit all the time. I was even called "the grandchild wrangler". Even with all of that experience with and around children when I had my son it was all new to me. For one thing a lot of the things I went through with my son or my first son for that matter weren't things anyone that was my contemporary was going through. So I turned to other resources. Yes baby books, but also books about grief and mommy blogs, really anything that I could read and see myself or my babies in.
You will never hear a mother say "I wish I didn't know this when I was expecting". I'll say the most crucial time to read any book or blog or online resource involving your child is during pregnancy. There are so many signs and symptoms that unless you've read about it you wouldn't know that something is wrong.
I'm not here to tell you that reading baby books will make you the right kind of mother for your child. I'm just trying to tell you, don't fear the baby books. Don't be afraid of knowledge. Besides it's much easier to just ignore advice in a book than to tell your relative you don't want to use their advice.
How do you feel about the great baby book debate?
So I have a little confession for y'all today. I didn't always love The Bachelor, in fact I use to hate it. Yes you read that right . I found the whole show ridiculous. Why would any woman want to be a part of a show like that? I would hear people talk about how much they loved it, or how he should have totally picked the other one and I'd be like "uh huh sure". I wouldn't have watched it if you paid me. I was so above it (insert eye-roll).
That all changed last January. It had aired the night before and I thought maybe I'll see if they have it On Demand, see what all the fuss is about. After all there has to be a reason women (and men, my brother is a fan, although he isn't watching this season because of Nick) tune in every Monday night. Two hours later I was hooked.
Maybe it was the anticipation of who Ben Higgins would pick, or what the bachelorettes would wear for the cocktail party, but if I'm being honest it was probably the drama. I mean who could forget Lace and her "I'm not crazy" choruses, or Olivia instead of offering her condolences to Ben when his friend died just talked about her cankles. These women were either fantastic actors or just a little crazy (sorry, Lace).
As the weeks went on I had my favorites, Olivia (she's from Virginia!), Lauren B., Amanda, and JoJo. My pick for the final rose from the beginning was Olivia, even before she got the first impression rose. Then it was (finally) down to the final two, Lauren B. and JoJo, and shocker; he's in love with BOTH of them! I of course just knew he would pick JoJo, even his mom liked her. And he picked Lauren.
I was crushed. In that moment we were all JoJo. Unless of course you were rooting for Lauren (my Mom picked her the first night!). Then the JoJo fans rejoiced when she was announced as the new Bachelorette, and us Bachelor Nation newbies suddenly had a reason to watch. I was officially a Bachelor fan. How had that happened?
I'm now one of those girls that tunes in eagerly every Monday night, who asks other known Bachelor fans if they caught last week's episode. I even did a Bachelor fantasy draft this season. And you know what, I wish I had started watching sooner.
Full disclosure for this season: I'm totally Team Corinne, probably because Taylor is so overbearing and oftentimes rude I can't imagine she's a very successful mental health counselor. Maybe it's more like those that can't do teach thing? Assuming that saying is actually true. In the words of Corinne, Taylor "you do you, Imma do me". Preach.
While I side with Corinne on the Corinne vs. Taylor thing I think/hope Nick will pick Danielle M.
Are there any shows you used to hate that you now love? If you're a fellow Bachelor fan who are you rooting for this season?

Hey y'all! Today I thought I'd share just 5 cooking skills I think anyone should have mastered. So many people find themselves intimated by cooking, and they really shouldn't be. After most of cooking is just following directions. Once you have a few of the basic dishes or skills down you can modify here and there to suit your personal taste. And if like me you already have these skills down you could use this list as a starting point to teach your kids the basics of cooking. Well let's get started!

1. How To Cook Eggs
Eggs are one of the most versatile things you could cook. You can have them scrambled, hard boiled, soft boiled, poached, fried, over easy, in a quiche, an omelet, a frittata, you get the picture. You should know how to make eggs at least 3 different ways. My favorite way is definitely quiche. Quiche is good for breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner.

2. How To Cook Rice
I know this sounds super easy, but I have had too many rice fails to count, and I'm a pretty good cook if I do say so. One time I accidently put in DOUBLE the amount of water to make minute rice. At first I'm all "oh no, not again! This is going to be horrible!!!". Then I let it cook a little longer and I realized something really cool, my little mistake had made sticky rice! So I guess you could say my epic fail became an epic win? But seriously cooking rice right should be on your list.

3. How To Make A Yummy Cookie
We all love the Christmas tree cookies you can get in the refrigeration section of the grocery store. I know I do! But it's also good to know how to make one really yummy cookie recipe. It doesn't have to be fancy, or super time consuming. In fact my favorite cookie to make, Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip, is only 4 ingredients.

4. How To Make Mac 'n' Cheese
Everyone should know how to make a really good mac 'n' cheese, and not the boxed kind. Mac 'n' cheese is one of those foods I could live off of, like literally. It's a crowd pleaser, a comfort food, and an excellent source of dairy! My favorite recipe for mac 'n' cheese is only 4 ingredients. There's tons of different ways to make mac 'n' cheese a little different. You could add bacon, more cheese, jalophenos, whatever you want.

5. How To Make A Casserole
Casseroles are the easy staple of many households across America. You can make one with noodles, rice, chicken, beef, veggies, if you can think it, you can bake it. My favorite casserole I've made is BBQ Ranch Chicken Casserole. It doesn't take much prep time or actual cooking time, and if you have any bbq ranch sauce left over you could use it to dip chicken tenders or fries in for the next night's dinner.
What was the first meal you learned to cook? What would you add to this list?
Hey y'all! It's been a hot minute since I've shared any of my favorite Avon products. Here's just a few of the best products I personally use from Avon.

1. Avon True Color Multi Eyeshadow Quad- Naked Truth

I'm not always the best at coordinating eyeshadow shades together, so I like using easy to follow sets. This is one of my favorites. It's perfect for everyday wear, not too harsh, with just the right amount of simmer. They have about 12 other palettes in this style, and then about 5 in matte.

2. Ultra Color Lipstick- Blush Nude

I love a good lipstick. This is not only a pretty shade of nude, but it's creamy and not drying. It's infused with vitamin E, omega-3 oil, and shea butter. It's a full coverage lipstick, and has true color technology so the color you see is the color you get on your lips. There's about 40 shade, in either shimmer or satin finishes, but this is my favorite. Bonus: lipsticks are 2 for $12 right now!

3. Big & Daring Volume Mascara

This mascara does exactly what it says. It make your lashes big and gives them much needed volume. It's suitable for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers. It's clump-free, smudge-free, and flake-free. It can last for up to 24 hours. It come in black (what I use), blackest black, and brown black, and also black in waterproof.
Good morning y'all! As I had mentioned in an earlier post we all had colds right after Christmas and into the new year, so fun right?! Well thankfully we're all better now, but it got me thinking. We get sick almost every year right around the new year. We're pretty healthy around the rest of the year and we don't get many major illnesses, so I can't really complain. Instead I'll just walk you through 5 reasons I believe we get sick every new year. Now I must forewarn y'all I am NOT a doctor, I just play one on Google, so enjoy my personal commentary on our "new year, new colds".

1. Cold Weather
Some of you are probably thinking "well duh!", but seriously it's true that cold weather is just another reason you find yourself more susceptible to that pesky cold going around. There was a study at Yale a couple years ago that finally confirmed suspicions that cold weather can weaken the immune system. It also probably doesn't help that we live in Virginia and our weather is more all over place than a toddler on a sugar high. One minute it's 60 degrees, and the next day it's 18 degrees and snowing. Welcome to Virginia.

2. The Holiday High
With Christmas comes excitement and good feelings about family and friends, and maybe even a few people you don't normally like haha. Christmas truly puts a little more peace in the air. Well it does for me. They even say people are more likely to be looking for love right after Thanksgiving up until Valentine's Day. My point is that Christmas brings happiness, it's the high point of the year for so many families and individuals. Everyone knows that endorphins are the chemical explanation for happiness, and most people start to feel a little low once it's over. When your endorphins are a little lower it weakens your immune system leaving you open to whatever germs and bugs are going around. Merry Christmas ya filthy animals.

3. Crowds/ Family Gatherings
Now I love family/friend gatherings around Christmas. God wants us to not only honor the birth of His son, but to be thankful for our brothers and sisters, and cousins, and uncles, and that one person that you're not really sure how you're related to but you love just the same. With all that said OF COURSE we're all going to be sick after Christmas we all just came in from the cold and are in someone's living room with sometimes 30 other people you haven't seen since last year. You don't know if so and so washed their hands, and they don't know if they're about to fall sick the next day. Oh the suspense haha! Hey at least everyone is all sick together.

4. Poor Diet
At that family gathering you probably had at least 2 of your favorite foods, which I would dare to guess are riddled with fat. That's why they're delicious, duh! Not gonna lie, I love any food that I know I'm going to hate myself for eating in just a few hours because I'm so full. But I'm usually too full to even eat dinner so I call it even. Then I eat leftovers for breakfast. I say all this to say we all know that keeping up good dietary habits is good for our overall health. So when we veer off that track our immune system turns against us. Which really makes no sense to me, like you would think it would be happy with all that mac 'n' cheese!

5. The Christmas Rush
My final reason I believe we get sick right after the new year is basically all the different things we're doing right around Christmas time. We're going to this family gathering, we have to bring a casserole to this get together, we still have to wrap so and so's presents, oh yeah we have to get that person a present. We're staying up later, and getting up earlier. Every weekend is more jam packed than the next. When you're stretched too thin your immune system gets even thinner. We love Christmas, and all the memories made, but we're maybe just a little glad once we can catch our breath. Then comes the colds.
Nevertheless, the good news is this: when we look back on Christmases of the past we don't think about how sick we were right after. No, we instead remember our family and friends, and all the funny/sentimental/weird memories we made. Then we get a cold.

Good morning readers! I hope everyone's week is off to the best of starts. Whether you're having a good week, or a week you already wish was over you still have to eat. So here's something quick and delicious you can make for dinner! Most people love BBQ sauce and ranch dressing, so why not combine them and put them in a casserole?! My whole family loved this casserole, and I was not a bit disappointed to eat the leftovers the next day for lunch. By the way BBQ ranch is a great condiment to just keep in the fridge for sandwiches, or burgers and fries. Here's the simple recipe:

1 12.5 oz. can of chicken breast

1 can of yellow corn

1 can of diced tomatoes

1/2 lb. Rotini pasta

2 cups Colby jack cheese (1 cup to mix, 1 cup to top)

1 1/2 cups ranch dressing

3/4 cup BBQ sauce

Cook pasta until done. Be careful not to overcook as you'll be cooking it further in the oven.

Drain the can of chicken and flake the chicken a part.

Preheat oven to 350 and lightly grease your casserole dish ( I used butter).

Drain corn and tomatoes and mix all together with chicken and pasta. Salt and pepper.

Whisk together ranch dressing and BBQ sauce. Pour over pasta mixture and mix evenly.

Mix 1 cup of cheese into mixture. Then top the whole casserole with the remaining cup of cheese.

Bake for 20 minutes.

Hey y'all! I hope everyone's year is off to a great start. As you can see I'm a little behind on blogging. First it was an unfortunate reaction Miller had to some new formula. Warning to all parents, but especially parents of children with g-tubes, Pediasure is NOT always the best formula. It can sometimes be too harsh for little bellies. So don't be afraid to keep things like they are formula wise. Miller was almost instantly better once we switched back to his original formula.
Then came the holidays. We had wonderful, memorable celebrations with family. Lots of food, lots of thoughtful gifts exchanged, lots of laughter, and lots of reminiscing. Miller was very spoiled, not just by presents but by affectionate relatives too. He of course was more than happy to oblige. I have to say this Christmas felt extra magical.

Once all the festivities had ended and the happy chaos had died down, then came the colds. UGH. Seriously though each week someone new had the cold. I just did my week. Thankfully Miller didn't get one. So now I think (or hope) life will start to get back to a routine.
With the new year comes new goals, new hopes, new beginnings. I'm actually one of those dorks that loves making new year resolutions. I probably just love the chance to make a list. All the same resolutions get made. Most years it's about reading more, or exercising more. The basic new year resolutions. Well this year I made the basic ones, but I also made a more general resolution. Not really a resolution, but more a mantra. 'Always believe that something wonderful is about to happen'.

My mom always says that to me. She says it so much she actually gave me a necklace ( a gold fortune cookie no less, can't get a more optimistic symbol than that) because it came with a card that had that saying. The last few years have taken a bit of my optimism I'm a little ashamed to admit. It can be difficult to keep the kind of attitude that good things are headed your way when you've been delivered a few low blows. So that's why this year that's my mantra. And I have to say this year I actually believe it.
What are your new year resolutions? Did you make any? Are you an optimistic person at heart?

Hey y'all! With all of the holidays coming up, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's, you'll probably have a few get-togethers to attend, and you'll probably need/want to bring something to share with everyone. That's where my favorite dip comes in, Pumpkin Pie Dip. It's so delicious, easy, and only 3 ingredients. I'm not sure if I should actually call it a recipe since it's so easy, but I think I will.

Ingredients:

Cool Whip ( You can use fat free or sugar free, but I used the original )

Canned Pumpkin Pie Mix 15 oz. ( I could only find the 30 oz. can so I just used half )

Instant Vanilla Pudding (Again you can use the sugar free, but I used the original )

Take all of your ingredients in a large bowl and mix together thoroughly. Make sure your cool whip is completely thawed, if you forgot to thaw it in the refrigerator you can just thaw it in the microwave. Once mixed allow to chill in the refrigerator for a few hours. That's it. Serve it with ginger snaps, pretzel sticks, pretzel crackers, vanilla wafers, or apple slices. It's the perfect appetizer for Thanksgiving, snack for last minute company, or do like I did and make it for your child's birthday party. Happy eating y'all!

And last but not least, this dual eye system. I love it. It says to use it twice daily, but I only use it every night before bed. It feels tingly when you put it on, which I love. The gel goes all over your lid up to the browbone, and the cream goes under the eye and on the high part of your cheekbone. It makes your eyes looks wide awake, noticeably reducing sagging skin and crow's feet. It infused with Injectable-grade arginine* and firming Polymer. It's suitable for sensitive skin, is, hypoallergenic, allergy-tested, dermatologist-tested, and ophthalmologist-tested. You should see results in 7 days. All of the Anew Clinical products are on sale for buy one get one for $5 right now.

Hey y'all! I hope everyone is enjoying all that Autumn (or Fall) has to offer. From the gorgeous floliage to the abundance of all things pumpkin, there's so many reasons to smile. Well today I bring you something that will make your wallet smile. I'm just being funny, wallets don't smile. But you will with all the money you'll save on decorating for Fall this year. Enough talking (or typing) here's a little budget friendly Fall décor inspiration for y'all!

Leaf icon isn't part of the décor, it's just for privacy!

Other than the pictures and the actual vases, everything on this buffet is from the Dollar Tree! I simply put one strand of leaf garland in each vase, then I put a few packages of mini gourds and a few packages of the loose leaves in front of the vases and frames.

Here is what I did with the mantle this year. I used 3 strands of the leaf garland, about 7 pumpkins (orange, green, and burlap), and then a few packages of mini gourds to make it appear a little fuller. The white fox and owl were $3 each from the Target dollar spot, love that place! The squirrel is from Home Goods, and the painting is from Kirklands. Everything else was from Dollar Tree. Odds are if you ask me where I got something that's seasonal in my home I'll say Dollar Tree or Target.

And last but not least, if you happen to have any uncarved pumpkins hanging around and wanna make use of them here's a really simple DIY. I made this at a friend's pumpkin carving recently. All I did was put polka dots on the pumpkin in acrylic paint with a small paint brush. It took about 30 to 40 minutes to dry. I don't know if you can tell but the colors are peach, blue, and gold.

I hope this is helpful and y'all make the point to soak in every last minute we have of Autumn, happy decorating!

I wasn't always in love with Fall like I am today, but with each passing year I love it a little more. Maybe it's all of the pumpkin spice lattes. Maybe it began with the invention of Pinterest and their insanely cute and often time-consuming DIY Fall projects. Either way Fall has inched it's way into my heart where Summer used to be. My love of Fall is why I bring you the 5 stages of Fall today.

1. Pumpkin Flavored Coffee Creamer

This. This is where it all begins. You're strolling down the dairy section. You need milk. 2%. Then you see it. The pumpkin spice coffee creamer. Hey it may just be August, but suddenly you wanna break out your favorite sweater and jump in a pile of leaves. Okay I don't actually jump in piles of leaves when Fall comes around, but you get my point.

2. Fall Décor

Once I found the pumpkin creamer I had to put up the Fall decorations, it's the only logical step. So I put up my Fall mantle décor on August 28th this year. Of all of the seasons I like changing the mantle for Fall the most, well right after Christmas haha. The vibrant colors are so soothing and put me in a cozy mood. I think that's all the reason you need to put your decorations up a little earlier, so you can enjoy that cozy feeling just a little longer.

3. Pumpkin Spice Lattes
I know I already have pumpkin creamer on this list, but this is totally different. That first day you know you can pick up a pumpkin spice latte wherever you would usually get your vanilla or caramel latte or regular coffee, well it's a little magical. Okay, I guess that's just me. Oh by the way, I recently heard someone talking about getting the pumpkin flavoring in their chai latte (for those of y'all who don't drink coffee), so give it a try and tell me how y'all like it. I need a few more people to endorse it first before I'd give up my coffee.

I get very excited about switching out my wardrobe for Fall, but honestly I'm looking forward to switching out Miller's even more. Little sweaters, little coats, little pants. The best part about this age right now is I can dress him like I want with zero eye rolls. I highly doubt he's going to let me put him in pumpkin overalls once he knows better, so I have to soak this time in while it lasts.

5. Oh Yeah, The Weather

This part is where I remember it's not truly Fall yet. Sure September 22nd (the official 1st day of Fall) has come and gone, but everyone knows Fall isn't truly here until the weather is nice and crisp. We've had a day or even two where the morning felt slightly brisk. But that's about it. Although we don't have a shortage of rain by any means. The leaves seem like they're trying their best to stay green but every morning I see a few more of 'em resting on our lawn.

When is it truly Fall for you? What's your favorite season? What's your favorite thing about that season? I can't wait to hear!

When I was pregnant with Miller my sweet blogger friend Sherry was thoughtful enough to send us a few of her lovely children's books. I was touched by the gesture, and I was even more pleased when I sat down to read the books with Miller. Today I wanted to share with you our favorite of them all. That mama is a grouch.
The basic premise is about a mama who is not so secretly frustrated by the things her daughter gets into, and the daughter decides her mama is, you guessed it, a grouch. It's funny, clever, and thought provoking for little minds. The illustrations are adorable as well. My son loves books and was instantly taken with this by the pictures and poetic words. He's still a little young to understand the concept of the book but I know this will be a book we can enjoy for years to come.
I highly recommend this book to other moms, dads, grandmas and grandpas, and babysitters, or really anyone who knows a child that enjoy books. It makes a unique birthday present, or maybe it could be a new baby present like it was in my case. Either way, you can buy any books by this award winning writer, Sherry Ellis, on her blog. Happy reading y'all!

Mom buns. They're everywhere. At the supermarket. At church. Across the street sifting through the mail. Standing in front of you in line at Starbucks. Maybe you're the one sporting the mom bun. My point is, they might just be THE hairstyle of this era. They're so popular they have even graced t-shirts, mugs, and wall art. But is it really anything new?
Now buns have nothing really to do with motherhood. Ballerinas wear 'em (proud ballerina here!), people wanting to save time, people wanting to try something new with their hair, even men have gotten in on the hairstyle. Still the term "mom bun" gains popularity. For the obvious reason of buns projecting someone wishing to save time, and moms being a major people group always looking for a few extra minutes.
It wasn't until a few months back though that it hit me. Mom buns aren't just a trendy thing to iron on your t-shirt(although I think it's super cute haha), they're something moms and women in general have been doing since prairie days. As in Little House on the Prairie. Ma Ingalls.

As someone who used to love watching the Ingalls, and still does, I find that extremely funny. That today in such "modern" times as these we "modern" women don something that in some minds would make people think of log cabins and no electricity. I'm always trickled by deja vu moments like this. It's little things like this that reminds us that we're not all that far from our ancestors or foremothers in a good way.
There's a lot of trends in style or lifestyle that are throwbacks to our pioneer ancestors. Maxi shirts, I'm pretty sure our great grandmothers would rock one. Chicken in the backyard, no home was complete without them. Freezer meal cooking, our great grandmother would make enough sausage to feed a family of 5 for the whole winter.
Now we have plenty of conveniences they didn't. The world wide web couldn't even be imagined in that time. Can you picture Ma on Pinterest? She would have probably put a intricate braid in her mom bun with one of Pinterest's many hair tutorials. Or maybe she would have finally figured out the best way to get grease stains out of her pans. If she had had Starbucks she might have taken a part time job as a barista instead of working at the restaurant in season 6 (okay I know that wasn't real life, just for the show). Or maybe she would be a online Avon representative like me. I really wanna know how she got her buns so perfect back before elastic hair ties. I can't get them right WITH one. FYI the scrunchie was patented in 1986. You're welcome.
I don't sport a mom bun as much as media and advertising might suggest moms do or should, I actually wore my hair in a bun more when I was a early teen. But that bun was much more polished. I'd say I wear my hair up 50 percent of the time. Keep in mind though I used to work in a salon. I learned a lot about taking care of your hair, and got used to having to have my hair styled for my job.
Although I've noticed that in friends and family that I knew before they were moms they wear their hair up exponentially more than they did pre-kids. I guess the cliché is true after all.
Whether you're a mom or not are you a fan of the "mom bun"? Or more of a unwilling participant in the trend?
With Fall here (and yes I know it's not "technically" Fall yet) baking is definitely on my mind. Pies, cakes, cookies, basically anything that can also have pumpkin in it haha. The funny thing is though I made these cookies for the first time back in August. They're easy, yummy, stay very moist even days later, and they're gluten-free as well as dairy-free. Here's the recipe:

Ingredients:

1 cup peanut butter

1 cup sugar (you could obviously use Splenda if you wanted)

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup milk chocolate chips

* Depending on how big you want your cookies one batch of this recipe makes a little over a dozen.

Take all of your ingredients minus the chocolate chips and put them in a bowl and mix evenly. I used the standing mixer to mix the dough.

2. Add in the chocolate chips, you may have to mix them in with your hands.

3. Roll the dough into 1 inch balls and place on ungreased baking sheet.

4. Bake at 325 degrees for 15 to 18 minutes.

5. Once done allow to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes because otherwise the cookies
will fall apart. And that's it. Happy baking!
I hope everyone had a wonderful summer and the school year is off to a good start. I took a sort of unintentional break from blogging for the summer. So I wanna catch y'all up on what we've been up to in the last few months.
Miller finally had his dedication at church in July. I had been meaning to do it for months, but couldn't get it done until July, better late than never I guess! When I went shopping for his dedication outfit I had a little boy's shorts outfit or something in mind. But when I started looking I noticed most of the outfits like that were way too small for Miller (he's in 12 months, occasionally 18 months clothes). So I went with a christening gown, which I actually ended up preferring. It was a special day, and a even sweeter memory.

In other Miller news, he is officially the proud owner of 3(almost 4) teeth! The last time I blogged he had zero. He got his first 2 teeth in late July on the bottom, then his top tooth came in 2 weeks later. I can't believe it but he's even cuter with his new chompers. He loves testing them out on spoons, cereal puffs, teethers, and really anything in arm's reach.
He also has grown to love his bath-time. Yeah, you heard me. He loves to bang his arm against the water and watch it spill over the sides of his baby bathtub. New teeth, and loves baths? This boy is unstoppable!
Other than gaining teeth and taking baths we've been enjoying lots of family and friends time. Miller is so social and outgoing, always laughing. Although he's developed a habit you could say for taking naps in the presence of company haha. Play-dates, church service, family birthday parties while all of his cousin sing happy birthday at the top of their lungs. The kid loves his sleep. He also loves to talk, he says "momma", "hey", and "I love you". I know the I love you part sounds a little unbelievable but it's true, and insanely cute.
I hope everyone is having a good day so far. Maybe you have your whole day planned out, including tonight's dinner. Maybe you're sifting through the contents of your refrigerator for a suitable dinner. Well if you need something easy and delicious for dinner tonight(I feel like I say that kind of thing a lot) look no further than my recipe for hotdog hash!
My mom has been making this since before I was born, and my nana made it when she was a little girl. So I guess you could call this a family recipe. It's easy, delicious, and only four ingredients. Enough blabbering from me, here's the recipe!

Ingredients:

8 pack of hotdogs

4 cans of sliced potatoes

Frozen diced onions

Just enough oil to coat the bottom of your skillet

1. Pour enough oil in the bottom of your skillet to coat it(I used vegetable oil), and once coated add your onions. Let them brown on medium heat.

2. Cut your hotdogs in one inch slices, then add them to the browned onions. Increase heat to high.

3. Open and drain all 4 cans of potatoes. Add them to your skillet as well.

4. Your meal should be complete once hotdogs are done, and the potatoes are softer. Add salt and pepper to taste!

That's it! It doesn't get much easier than this. Greens beans would be a great side for this, and of course it's not dinner without rolls! At least that's what my mom always says. A little motherly advice to go with this cherished family recipe. I hope y'all enjoy it as much as we do!

I have decided I can't be silent anymore. Not about this. It was recently brought to my attention that I shouldn't play the victim. I must have missed that part where I prayed for what I've been going through since last August. It wasn't the first time someone has told me I should hold myself accountable. Maybe Miller ought to take his fair share of the blame as well. Because we hold about the same amount; none.
I'm just so tired and sad at how we as a society constantly berate people(women mostly) for being a "victim". When did it become acceptable to shame someone for something that happened to them. Yes don't get me wrong there are plenty of divorces that are amicable. But this isn't one of them. I had no idea, no inkling. He left. The end. The only people that seek to shame are the ones who refuse to believe that sometimes people hurt other people. Sometimes there's only one injured party. If a man is left by his wife, no one tells him it was his fault. They call her names, tell him there's so many women he could be with out there. But they never suggest he did something.
People constantly say it's absurd to act like there's a war on women when women in 3rd world countries are so oppressed. And I agree, there are horrible conditions for women out there. But how do you think the oppression starts? It starts by telling women to not tell what really happened, to just remain silent. If your husband has a problem with you, you must have done something wrong. No good woman has a husband treat her this way for no good reason. Abuse is the wife's fault. That's at least the message being put out there. And people wonder why women find it difficult to get out of abusive relationships.
If any of that was true women wouldn't be in danger every day, in dark parking lots, in shopping malls, and even in their own homes. Would you dare ask the beaten wife why her husband beat her? Maybe she should have read his mind that his meatloaf was too cold. The family who lost their home to arson. Maybe they should have known their neighbor was plotting that.
You cannot call yourself a Christian and shame the victim and uplift the victimizer. I'm all about love the sinner, hate the sin. But where does it say tell the person that is personally hurt by the sin it was their fault. It doesn't.
Husbands tried to rid themselves of wives that they were displeased with in the 1930s by way of having their wives committed to mental wards. It had become such a overwhelming problem that the first woman in Maine's legislature, Gail Laughlin, passed a bill that penalized husbands for bringing false testimony in the involuntary commitment of their wives. So it just goes to show that the mistreatment of women has been around for a long time in varying degrees. And sadly it doesn't seem to be leaving us any time soon.
In the Bible it says "Jesus replied, "Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way in the beginning"( Matthew 19:8). Notice that Jesus never suggested that the wives were to blame for the hardening of the hearts of the men. I guess today we don't believe that men could leave their wives for the hardening of their hearts. Mankind is no different today than when Jesus was here. Sometimes there isn't another side, there's just the truth.

This past Tuesday(on my 21st birthday of all days) Miller officially turned 7 months old. Each new month is both exciting and bittersweet for this mama. Sometimes it hits me how big he's gotten as if I haven't been with him every day of his life. Well for those of you who are curious about what he's up to in his 7th month of life, here you go!

Weight: At his last appointment he weighted 16lb. 10oz.

Clothes: 6-9 months. I've already started finding some of his Fall clothes.

Diapers: Still in size 2.

Food: He has started on his pureed foods, and is still taking his G-tube feeds. He was doing extremely well with the pureed foods, his favorites being bananas, squash, and pears; but I think he has started teething so he's not quite as interested as he had been. But he loves a nice cold paci!

Favorite Toy: He is still enthralled by his triangle toy. He also loves his rings that can connect and disconnect.

Best Time of Day: The morning is still his favorite. He gets up, gets changed, eats, and usually takes a late morning nap.

Likes: Being held, cold pacis, being talked to, playing with his toys. I recently discovered how he likes to join in on exercise time with mommy. We'll do squats together and he just laughs and squeals, it's the cutest thing. He also loves The Gilmore Girls theme song. Every time it plays I'll sing it to him and he just stares at me and smiles.

Dislikes: Not being held, and not having a cold paci. Oh and bath time is still torture to him.

Milestones: He recently had what I call appointment day. He got all 3 doctors done in one day; neurologist, gastrointestinal doctor, and pediatrician. I love how convenient it is that his neurologist and GI are across the hall from each other. Is it sad that that's the kind of stuff I get excited about now?! Haha moving on. All of his appointments went wonderful, they couldn't have gone better! I was the happiest by what his neurologist said, which was his first appointment of the day. He said he was very surprised and pleased by Miller's progress. He also said he wasn't too concerned by what he was doing physically, that his social interaction and awareness is more important. And everyone says he doing very well socially. He is getting even more gorgeous hair, and his eyes are even bluer. So far this has been a fantastic month for Miller!

Hey y'all! I hope everyone has had a fantastic week. I know I've been looking forward to the weekend. For one thing my birthday is this Monday and my mom's birthday is on Sunday(I was a late birthday present you could say). But Miller will be 7 months old(officially!) on my birthday! So lots of happy things are on the forecast.
A few weeks back I did a round-up for Five on Friday about five cool items I recently found for(you guessed it) $5 or under. Well I'm doing it again today, but for babies!

1. Flash Cards- $1.00

I'm sure your first thought is "uh isn't your son too young for those?", and the answer would be "no!". Nearly every article you read about early childhood development will talk about the importance of talking and interacting with your children. Showing them flash cards is simply taking the conversation a step further.
When I opened these for the first time to show to Miller he got surprisingly excited. Because to him, everything is new, and therefore something to be explored or experienced.
I found all of these flash cards pictured at none other than Dollar Tree. They have a bunch more about math, matching games, colors and shapes, etc.

2. Board Books- $1.00

If you've ever spent more than five minutes in a Barnes & Noble you have probably glared at the outrageous prices they have for children's books. Oh that's just me? Never mind.
Well if you can identify with that you would be happily surprised by the well priced choices you can find at Dollar Tree and Target's dollar spot. I've found a plethora of board books for Miller. He has regular paper page books as well, but the board books are a great choice since they're durable and you can easily disinfect them with cleaning wipes. Score!

3. Baby Wipes- $1.00

When I'm out and about with Miller I find it's much easier to bring a small package of wipes rather than the 100 packs. I found this 32 pack for only a $1 at Dollar Tree, and can I just say how much I love the Mickey Mouse theme. I also saw the exact same pack of wipes at Target, but for $1.47. So if you do the math you would pay 47% more at Target for the exact same thing. You're welcome.

4. Baby Spoons- $1.00

Miller just recently started on pureed foods(can you say 'exciting' and 'messier than I had bargained for'). So obviously his little mouth can't handle adult size spoons. I got these at Dollar Tree. They have them in 12 packs, with either 12 spoons or a combination of 12 spoons and forks. They come in fun colors, and they're BPA free.

5. 'O' Ball Rattle- $4.00

I had never actually heard of the 'O' ball until Miller was in the NICU. A lovely neonatologist developmental doctor suggested it, she said it was one of the only toys she strongly suggested for parents to get for their children. Now the traditional 'O' ball is a little over $5, but the rattle is about $4 at walmart. I got it before the actual ball for Miller back at Christmastime. They're really great toys, easy to grasp, flexible, colorful. My son loves trying to put it in his mouth, and I love watching him try. Cue all the heart eye emojis!

Well that's all folks! I hope y'all found this helpful. What are some of your favorites for babies that are under $5? Have you used any of the above?
I hope everyone had a nice Mother's Day weekend. As usual my weekend came and went way too fast. If you're having a case of the "weekdays"(that is a thing, right?) this post is for you. Because nothing makes you feel fancier than sipping Earl Grey from your favorite teacup.
My mom and I used to love hosting tea parties, especially during the summer. We would enjoy planning out every last detail for weeks. So if you wanna throw a tea party for a bridal shower, baby shower, or just to throw a tea party read on!

Invitations

This is the first place to start(after you decide the date of your party of course), because this isn't one of those "build it and they will come" times, it's one of those "send a invitation far enough in advance and they should RSVP by the date indicated" times. Now if you want to go the traditional route(which I would advise) you can find cute invitations at Dollar Tree, Target, Walmart, or Hallmark. You should create a Facebook event in addition to your mailed invitations. That way you have a designated place for your guests to RSVP, because lets face it, people don't take the time to RSVP by phone anymore. But you can bet they've checked their Facebook page 3 times already today. Of course leave your phone number on the RSVP line of your invitations for the traditionalists.

Drinks & Food

Obviously you'll be serving tea, and a couple choices at that! But don't forget to include a few options other than tea for your guests. Water and punch should be enough. You could also include coffee if you like. As for the food you should provide a mix of sweet and savory. Mini cupcakes are great, petit fours are adorable, filo cups with hummus are a real crowd pleaser. When planning on how much food you're having keep in mind how long your party should be. You wouldn't have the same amount of food for a 2 hour party as a 4 hour party. The common rule of thumb is 6 to 8 pieces per hour per guest.

Décor

For decorations your teacups and teapots are a obvious choice. If you don't already possess an array of teacups a great place to look for inexpensive options is Goodwill and thrift shops of the like. You'd be surprised by the hidden gems you'll find. Hanging paper lanterns are a favorite of mine for parties. They make a good impact without impacting your budget too much. I've found them at Target before at a good price.

Music

No party is complete without a soundtrack, not even a tea party. Classical music is a nice choice, music from the 40s is great, even some of today's mellower music can be perfect for the setting of an afternoon tea. Jack Johnson, Frank Sintara, Norah Jones, anything by Gershwin, and Michael Feinstein are just a few options for your playlist.

Attire

Now this section reminds me of a funny story from a tea party we threw when I was 12 years old. I had dressed up, gloves, pearls, hair up, heels on; I was ready for a tea party. I open the door to our first guests, it was my friends who were sisters and they had sundresses and sandals on. They were dressed very cute, but not as dressed up as I was. I don't think the Queen was dressed like I was that day. Before I can think better of it I exclaim "Boy am I overdressed!". My mother was mortified, luckily we had been friends for years so this was nothing new to them and their mom. Just a typical Robyn moment. So I tell you all that to say, don't expect any particular dress code to be followed by your guests, and try to dress in the middle ground. Not too causal, and not too overdressed.

Tips and Trivia

If you wanna do things up right use milk instead of cream for your tea. That's how the British do it.

There are 4 major types of tea, green, black, white, and oolong. They are all derived from the same plant, camellia sinensis. It's simply the treatment of the leaves that gives us the different types of tea.

Teas absorb moisture, so make sure your tea is stored in a sealed container.

For centuries tea was only used medicinally. It took almost 3,000 years for it become a everyday drink.

When tea leaves uncurl as hot water is poured over them it is known as "the agony of the leaves".

Earl Grey tea was named for a 19th century British diplomat to China. It is flavored with bergamot oil.

Tea used to be a luxury and was kept in a locked tea chest in the parlor. The lady of the house was responsible for the tea, and was often the only person with a key.

High tea was created during the Victorian era when a evening meal was eaten with tea. It took place at a high table.

Low tea is also known as afternoon tea. Afternoon tea began in the late 1800s by Anna, the 7th Duchess of Bedford. She would invite guests for tea and sweets to fill the long period of time between breakfast and dinner.

Tea was introduced to England in 1662 when Charles II married Portugal's Catherine of Braganze. Her dowry included chests of tea and the regions of Bombay and Tangier.

Lemon and milk should never go in the same cup of tea. The lemon can cause the milk to curdle.

English tea gardens were the first public place where men and women could mingle without scandal or criticism.

Typically the hostess will serve everyone's tea. The milk and sugar cubes go in first, this was done to protect the china from the tea.
